It's probably not too hard. The BBB's AM335x has 2 "Multichannel Audio
Serial Ports" each providing serial audio I/O ports which can be used in
I2S, SPDIF, AES-3 and other formats. I don't how well this is supported
under Linux, but in theory (AFAICS) the Cortex could support 4 x stereo
in & 4 x stereo out.

Search the web for "bbb" and "i2s".
