Headroom depends to the kind of music and the kind of instrument. I
agree that this is a good value for many recordings, while for less
dynamically music or instruments -3 dBFS should be ok too, not to
confuse with the sine vs square situation, regarding to this we need to
add -3 dBFS, so at least -6dBFS are usefull, resp. for more daynamic
caused by the music or instrument, yes, -20dBFS isn't unlikely, it's a
valid headroom.
