I have a combo jack on my T430, and have not experienced any problems
using it with a headphone with a usual 3 pin jack + the internal laptop
microphone.

I didn't look much, but so far as I can tell people had no problems
getting the audio out to work. It is only a problem if you plan to use
an external microphone. So maybe it could be worth the risk...
