With all due respect, it is you reading this subtext. I don't link hobbyist to lack of quality.


When you spend lots of wasted time having to clean up after jobs done by 'hobbyists' you will too.

In system design it is notorious that often times places buy multiple sound systems because often times they get 'hobbyists' to design their systems to begin with and often (Not always) end up with crap instead of going to professionals that cost a lot of money.  There are even nice papers written about this exact topic.

That isn't to say that a hobbyist can't be just as good as a professional(I have worked with some phenomenal hobbyist musicians for example), just that it is more common that a professional produces a higher quality on a regular basis than a hobbyist.  That is often why they can make a living doing whatever, and choose to make that living.
