IIRC, the Focusrites only accept 32 bit input at the hardware level,
and USB is also a more CPU-intensive bus.  It has to be supervised
continuously, unlike PCI[-x/-e].

I'd been unaware of the 2i4 before this thread; the 2i2 is a very good
little box, and I had been wishing it had 2 more outputs...
