what happens with:

   pasuspender -- jackd -d alsa -d hw:0,1

if it runs, what happns when you start the metronome AND connect it to system:playback_1 ?

Well, it is working with pulse (and by alsa as well). I do want the
sound to come out the same was as it does with pulse, the digital
monitors using the rca digital cable.
