During the last 24 hours I've re-installed and tested Aliki on 7 
different machines, in all cases it just works. The common factors 
are that all are running Archlinux, 32-bit.

Are you sure to have tested the version compiled from source ?
It will install in /usr/local, while the original one from your
distro will be in /usr. You could have ended up with two versions.

To get anywhere I'll need a bit more info. Please provide the
output of:

uname -a

ldd <full path to aliki>

ldd <full path to aliki-rt>
