As Arnold already pointed out, DRC is the tool to do this.
There's nothing else that comes close. DRC has excellent
documentation, also explaining what can be done and what
can't be done. Make sure to read it.

A work around of a cheap, resampling, soundcard will fix issues regarding to the used microphones and pre-amps too?
