Well I do find it a bit awkward.

sounds to me as if you actually need a tool like ardour to define the regions, and then export the results into some useful form.

alas, ardour can't do that.


That depends actually.  Ardour does export ranges, so if you use ranges to define the areas of audio on a single timeline, you can export all ranges to multiple audiofiles with a single action.  I did this for quite some time editing down multiple hour performances recorded to 2 track into multiple tracks.
