I think in your case I would go the route of SoundFont via Swami, as you surmised. I *think* it can do everything you need.

Hydrogen IMO is a very limited program, for all the reasons you listed already.

Um...that should have read "can I setup a virtual drumkit *with* multiple outputs and *with* hihat cutoff within the patch" using SoundFonts put together in Swami...
