I'm not an expert in licensing, but you did well contacting them because it is good to know the licensing they provided about the samples (or related to "sampling the samples") when they sold the unit. Maybe you can do search some search for the instructions manual (if any and if somebody scanned it, it seems old). You can also contact people who made something similar, I guess those who made, for instance, the Roland TR-x0x series. Hope it helps.
