If we want companies to take care that their audio cards, scanners, printers etc. can be used with Linux too, then we are talking about cheap home solutions for desktop PCs. Do you think RME doesn't know that there are professional Linux devices used in professional studios? They are aware of this, but that's not a reason for them to ship new audio cards with Linux software. Cards as the one I'm using, the HDSPe AIO are made for averaged desktop PCs. I don't say that an averaged desktop PC can't be used for professional work. However, I wonder what market Patrick is interested in. Nobody needs to convince me. I thought there's an interest to convince companies. Note that there's a tendency by the industry to switch from Linux to Microsoft for expensive industry gear, such as measuring instruments. However, if people think that arguing with some top notch products used by a hand full of rich studios and arguing that stuff that isn't available for Linux, isn't needed, because in the days before we had computers, we hadn't those tools too, plus informing about vague statistics, will make companies change their mind, so that they are willing to write closed source drivers for each kernel or hat they'll provide information they until now keep secret, why not simply email this information to the companies ;)? Companies don't support their hardware for Linux, because they've got all the information. They don't care about the Linux audio community, companies perhaps will take a little bit care about Linux companies like Novell/Suse and Red Hat. If you buy a ready build computer at the discounter, what OS most of the times does ship with this computer, all over the world? What office software is used the most etc.? Companies like Microsoft and Apple try to get world domination, they are sharks. The basic idea of Linux, FLOSS, is completely different. Sharks and Penguins are different species, they can't have that easy babies together, evolution still needs some steps to enable this. If we are talking about Linux, we're talking about FLOSS and FLOSS is a serious problem for the sharks.
