i'm not sure why i didn't think of pd, i use it all the time, and it
does audio and images. anyway, i did some searching and found this:

it takes a video input and converts it to audio. i'll go from there
and see what else i can do. cheers for the suggestion. i'm also
checking out ARSS, mammut, hypermammut and din, the last of which
looks truly wonderful
