assuming you record a bass thru a DI box directly in Ardour,
what effect, simulator... do you use to have it sounding like
a tube amplified bass recorded with a good mic (ie D12) ??
You could try the CAPS plugins: http://quitte.de/dsp/caps.html
You could try these in jack-rack

Yeah, the tube pre-amp of caps is really good for bass.

Specifically Compress and AmpV or AmpVTS.  I don't think the cabinet
simulators sound good with bass, though.
The cabinet-simulators on the other hand truly are guitar cabinets and thus
rather bad for bass...

Just to be sure, are you talking about the LADSPA plugin called "C* preampIV" in Ardour ??
