Hello Chris,

They don't typically share IRQ's but it does happen a lot that they do. And then it's perfectly possible that they share an IRQ with other onboard devices:

$ cat /proc/interrupts | grep firewire
16: 79 1245 IO-APIC-fasteoi uhci_hcd:usb3, firewire_ohci, mmc0, jmb38x_ms:slot0, eth1, nvidia
