Midi channels,

1-16 (0-15) on most hardware devices. Some interfaces support more than 16 channels.

Midi instruments banks,

AFAIK there's no particular limit to the number of banks a device can have. A bank is chosen with a Bank Select message.

Midi ports,

Physical ports on hardware synths are typically limited to In, Out, and Thru. Hardware MIDI interfaces may include several in and Out ports. And of course you can create virtual ports with ALSA's snd-virmidi.

Midi instrument patch numbers ...

0-127 per bank.

See, isn't MIDI easy ? ;)

Best,

dp
