I was wondering if is there any open source program made to controll and

software, that run on Mac or Windows, but i've never known anything about
Linux software.

For good reasons. The calculations required to simulate/design
line arrays are not so difficult, but are useless without exact
data about the speakers used (radiation pattern in function of
frequency etc.). Since manufacturers want to keep these data
confidential there's no point in providing the software.

in addition to their own software, many manufacturers do provide very detailed loudspeaker data for external tools such as EASE, so it's not that the data is not available. but it's a hefty piece of engineering to write such a tool (at least if you want to simulate room reflections as well, which most of the vendor-supplied tools happily ignore).

your best bet is a virtual windows machine and the software that comes with the system for free.

As for controlling, this either requires even more detailed
information if you want to do the processing yourself, or
interfacing to the manufacturers processors which use
proprietary protocols and data formats.

same here. the data is usually available (unless the vendor also sells controllers and wants to tie you to their own offerings). but i don't see why anybody would be stingy with the controller (at a measly 4k euros) when they've just spent well upwards of 50k for the speakers...
in those price ranges, there is simply _no_ incentive to go open-source.
i agree it would be more fun, but it's not going to happen.

moreover, with an XTA, i know it only crashes when there's a machine connected via USB (don't do that, then). with a pc to control the speakers, i never know what it'll do next after being kicked about by underpaid roadies who have no idea what's in the case they just tossed out of the trailer.
