this is *not* true in any strict sense.

the data path during export is EXACTLY the same as during normal
playback except for the conversion to an integer format. since
metering occurs before this, the data the metering displays is
IDENTICAL to the data that would be seen during normal playback.

let me be even more precise: the additional step for export
(conversion to an integer format) occurs after we read data *out of
the JACK ports* for each selected track or bus. as far as each track
or bus is concerned, normal playback is occuring, and all the signal
processing that occurs during normal playback is taking place with
absolutely zero differences.
