You can grep for ioctl and see if it is done with file descriptor 3 before the failure, in which case you know amidi plays with that device. Why does it fail... I don't know... And why does amidi try all the other devices after that I don't know, neither what /dev/aloadXX is... Maybe you can have a look at alsa.conf too...
