For original poster, maybe just need to assign whatever event aftertouch generates to whatever fluid/qsynth/Zyn/Yoshimi control you want it to alter?

If ZynAddSubFX hasn't changed greatly since 2.2.0 (2.4.0 is current?) it can't use aftertouch. No idea about Yoshimi though, which I think is Zyn's successor.

While I'm sure Cal can explain the Zyn<>Yoshimi relationship, Yoshimi isn't a "successor" to Zyn. More of a fork. Cal has his own goals for Yoshimi, including better support for RT kernels, JACK and supporting more MIDI events. In addition to other features.
