my thought is that getting the serial port to work seems to be frustrating when there simply is no solution. 
using the serial for editing is cool because it is bi-directional...
when you daisy chain the outport should be free. when the in of your synth has it's own channel you shouldn't have problems. except data spikes when you edit while you play.
