First of all, thanks Giorgio for posting the pics (I guess for an audio engineer revealing his recording set-up is really 'Open Source' like for a developer revealing his code ;)

Not picking on Giorgio but as for the mic setup it's more reminiscent

Of course it's hard to judge from the pics only, but I do find some Beethoven recording sometimes *too* reverberated... I guess also number of performers (which from the pics seems relatively small) can also influence the choice?
Lorenzo.
Exactly my impression. The six 'on stage' mics are (in the context
of orchestral recording) really 'spot mics'. If the main pair is
as Giorgio posted 'far from the stage' (is it the pair visible on
one of the pictures, at the back ?) it could be difficult to combine
them. And *one* mic for room reverb seems strange as well (unless it's
a stereo mic).

As it is it could
be OK if the recording was for something like a film score where it
would be mixed with other things?
Yes. For a film/TV score I'd want a dry sound, to be processed to
whatever it takes later.
So then we agree - it's not necessarily crazy. Maybe we just need a
bit more info.

One thing I couldn't tell was whether he possibly had other room mics
not shown in the picture? I didn't try very hard but I only counted 6
mics on stage. Possibly he had an X-Y pair out in the hall somewhere?

It would be interesting if Giorgio could supply a room layout picture
showing where the mics were, or maybe just a mix list?

What a beautiful room by the way. Few and far between here in America.

Cheers,
Mark
