I am pretty sure a microphone needing _exactly_ 48V won't break when provided 
with only 12V. So you can easily try it. And maybe it works because "48V 
phantom power" in the datasheet means "some reasonable phantom power" in real 
live...
It would be a little risky if the device outputs significantly more then 48V.
