Hi, Maybe it's nice to look what this year has brought us when it comes to good (maybe bad ;) ) Linux audio applications and developments. Some kind of evaluation of 2009 with conclusion for 2010. Mmh Let me start, random order: 1) Jack2 has become (very) stable 2) Ardour 2.8.4 is very stable, has LV2 support 3) New graphical LV2 plugins 4) LinuxDSP 5) Openoctave project, which makes Linux Audio more useful also for pro's. Including the openoctavemidi sequencer. 6) Pulseaudio was a mess, but works better with JACK now 7) Ubuntustudio 9.10 finally an Ubuntu Studio which performs pretty well. 8) LADISH, session handler for Linux Audio. Could be a major breakthrough for the workflow on Linux. 9) It's able to use Blender with Jack via a patch 10) New Calf plugins 11) Linuxsampler 1.0 12) PHASEX improvements 13) Zynaddsubfx 2.4 and Yoshimi! 14) Adi has joined the Debian Multimedia team and maintains a lot of packages now! :) 15) Kernels >= *.31 works great for RT even without patch! 16) Lilypond has improved tablature functionality now. 17) Frescobaldi is get smoother and smoother 18 NtEd and Mscore have reach a more mature status as WYIWYG notation editors 19) At least NtEd and Denemo are having Jack support and are able to add custom channel, which makes it easy to connect them to Linuxsampler for example 20) Moore is found alive :) 21) Ardour gets more income and reach the donation minimum (almost) every month now (with thanks to the community who helped improving the donation system. 22) Netjack2 ... Wishes: 1) Openoctave teams keeps up the good work 2) Ardour3 release, I hope it is as nice as they say it is. 3) Commercial products like pianoteq starting to use LV2 4) We get an nice Linux Audio session handler (improvements of LADISH and maybe an non-dbus alternative session handler by Fons et. al. ;) ) 5) More widely implementation of JACK midi 6) Maybe a sort Pd for Ardour as they have Max for Ableton Live? 7 Maybe a sort of Ableton Live for Linux (maybe in combi with LADISH) 8) improvements for Zynaddsubfx, maybe as LV2 plugin, GUI improvements? 9) Denemo reach version 1 and that it will be able to have more then one long bar... 10) More instruments synths 11) Linuxdsp becomes GPL and gathers enough income 12) More people joining the Debian Multimedia Team 13) Mixbus for Linux 14) Video apps, like Blender get JACK support 15) Better plugins infrastructure on Linux (important one atm!) 16) Good LAC2010 in Utrecht NL., with nice presentations ... Next... :) \r _______________________________________________ Linux-audio-user mailing list Linux-audio-user@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx http://lists.linuxaudio.org/mailman/listinfo/linux-audio-user
