oops, I sent us off list, accidentally

anyway, I meant that the userspace networkmanager tool was an issue,
not the wifi kernel modules, ubuntu can use wifi with no xrun issues
if you run dhclient / iwconfig / wpa_supplicant etc. from the command
line.
