The UCA202 doesn't have a "IN" level control, you have tu adjust gain
at the "OUT" you conected to
(fisical mixer, or whatever is giving signal to de 202)

For cheapo sound adapter this has been the best for 2 years now.(for me)

It is waaay better than onboard sound.
Even that it does record/play 16bit/48khz only, sounds prettygood for 30 dlls
