If you have xruns with that hardware, it is a problem with your setup and has 
nothing to do with the distribution. You should identify the causes and deal 
with it first. E.g. if you have xruns with the CardBus + multiface, I would 
first check wether your CardBus controller shares it's interrupts with 
something else and address that problem.

Compiling a kernel is not that hard, and if you keep your old kernels in 
reach, nothing bad can happen. But as I said, first you should find the cause 
for the xruns.
