Looking at the packages installed: alsa-base 1.0.16-0ubuntu4 alsa-utils 1.0.15-3ubuntu2 libasound2 1.0.15-3ubuntu4 alsactl and alsamixer both report version 1.0.15. Kernel is version 2.6.24-21-eeepc.
