Seems, the mixer is in the external box.

Disconnected mode in HDSP works as follows:
1) connect the box
2) set up mixer as you need
3) select "Diconnect Mode" (TotalMix feature)
4) disconnect the box

It will route audio the way you set it up.

But I never tried it. And not sure it will work on linux, until
somebody adds this feature to hdspmixer.
