Hi!
   Which version of jack are you using? Did you try aconnect as well? also 
aconnect -li and -lo to see what's heppning with the alsaseq ports.
   I've used 109.2 for a long time ad nothing went wrong there. Now I use 
0.112.0 and after fixing jack_connect all is well.
   My favourite apps to connect MIDI and audio are LinuxSampler, fluidsynth 
(no GUI) and sometimes aeolus.
