No, it's an ugly workaround.
It's just a script that changes the (!)main volume of the application,
which means that you can't use the applications volume control anymore
or you will mess up the replaygain of the currently playing song, and
the replaygain of the next song will mess up your set volume.
I don't know other limitations off the top of the head.
Maybe amarok2 will fix that by having replaygain built-in.
