yes, but you do need to take time to fiddle around with the placement.
you need someone to play the guitar while you listen to the mic on good 
sealed headphones (ones that exclude all other sound and give a nice 
balanced sound).  move the mic around till it sounds like what you want.
you may find that over a meter away sounds better than close by, or maybe 
close by sounds good.  experiment.

no, you can't really fix it with EQ (-:
