Thanks, I had to select the audio file in audacity and then effects > change tempo.

Is there also such a tool in ardour?

Use Audacity's Change Tempo tool.

Check out the Audacity instructional videos on YouTube.

Transcribe! also does an excellent job of tempo change in realtime.

Snd includes a good tempo shifter.
