I ended up getting an echo gina 3g and a stedman sc3 mic. DI'ed bass and the mic both sound fantastic with the Gina. Everything just works and works well. The echo console is great too. All round, very happy with it all and thanks to the advice from the list. Sound card choice was pretty easy but mic choice was harder, got a good deal on the stedman though so i got it. Was also looking at the MXL mics and have heard good things about them.
