You need virmidi installed.

Just run it with 
python pymidichaos /dev/snd/midiC3D3 (or whatever your virmidi
port is called) then route the alsa connect of the virmidi out to
your synth of choice with 

aconnect -lo
aconnect client_no_of_virmidport client_no_of_synth

press the start button, and move the split point slider to the
right, and it should work...

Oh, I got qmidiarp working properly too.. just needed to input on
channel 1 (not 9!!)
