This was necessary because early NPTL implementations were completely
broken. I can't remember the last time I needed this, it must be at
least two or three years. It shouldn't be necessary with any modern
system.

The problem was still here a year ago, but now I don't think it's
relevant anymore. Distros, package maintainers, and the linux-audio
community should advertise to remove LD_ASSUME_KERNEL from there
profile (which I'm not sure was the right place to be set since it's
system wide).
