agreed, realtime is not needed for composing with a matrixeditor for a
sequencer playing synths.

Not completely (even a single millisecond delay can cause listenable
phasing if two sources play the same sequence with the same sound) but
in all sane realworld usage-scenarios such offset should not be an
issue. BUT: If you actually want to record a recently played sequence to
a WAV-file, you will want a method, that starts the recording
automagically as the sequence starts playing, because you want WAV-Files
that can easily be cut for loops. So to have the possibility to start
the sequence and the recording at exactly the same moment (e.g.
synchronized), can be quite usefull.
