There is no inherent problem to recompile VSTs for native linux,

what are you talking about? almost every VST plugin has a GUI written
using a GUI toolkit that is not available for linux. so sure, "no
inherent problem" but that actually means "no inherent problem but in
practice its so much work that nobody does it".
I didn't get a clear answer if he has implemented vstgui in linux, if he has I think you are wrong. Atleast the plugins that are available on both Win32 and OSX should be possible to migrate.
We will just have to wait and see.
