Understood.  I for one am coming from a 100% technical POV and dislike
zealotry and people who make free software a political/religious issue.

The point is not whether the ATI driver is likely to work, or whether
you should be using it - it's only that for the specific purpose of
kernel debugging, closed source drivers cannot be present for purely
technical reasons.

Understood. Thanks. If the radeon driver continues to work then I'd be
happy to use it. Currently I have no errors but I do have warnings
about DRM support for Radeon 9500 and higher.  Probably not a big deal
for me.

Now, if I Can find some time I'll try to report 2.6.18-rt3 not booting.
