Hi Esa. I don't know how you are getting on with this problem. snd-mpu401 
should show up in, /lib/modules/your_kernel/sound/drivers/mpu401, if it is 
there. I read there were some problems with snd-usb-audio in 2.6.14, and the 
basic version of 2.6.15. In later revisions of 2.6.15 this problem is fixed. 
Whether midi was involved I don't know, but it might be worth trying an 
earlier version than 2.6.14, or if it is available for you, one of the later 
revisions of 2.6.15. While your at it, see if you can modprobe snd-usb-audio 
with your 2.6.14 kernel. It would be interesting to know if it works.
