Negative, chief. The ALSA software "plug" layer doesn't work.

Yes, if aplay doesn't work, nothing else will work, and you actually
don't need to continue testing other software, until aplay works.
However aplay should work, when using the plug-layer so I'm a bit
puzzled by the error message you got.

Are you on a PowerPC-system?


Negative. On an Intel Centrino. Slackware 10.2, a 2.6.15 kernel.
