I've experienced exactly the same - amixer shows me lots for my cheapo CMI8738 card, but nothing at all for the DIGI9636. I don't know whether or not his is expected, but I think Paul Davis may have found the answer to my problem elsewhere in this thread. Thanks Michael Nelson
