Hello, Clemens,

Yes, audio is working fine with jack (well except for some overruns); it is 
only MIDI that's the problem. Thanks to you and the others, I have something 
to go on - it had been a while since I dealt with this stuff, so I needed 
people to jog my memory. Thanks!

I realized I confused the issue by mentioning the rosegarden-fluidsynth-DSSI 
problem, which has in retrospect nothing to do with MIDI, and for which I 
will do some more poking around, or simply try the stand-alone fluidsynth.
