all of your points are right, especially the last one ;-) .

I have a Hammond XB-1 here, and even this machine offers a 
really good sounding Leslie simulation.

IN fact, besides the effects you desscribed, it's also true 
that even a true Leslie doesn't sound true as soon as it is 
conserved in a stereo recording.

But anyway, there have been good emulations like found in some 
Dynacord devices, so I guess it is possible to create a cool 
digital emulation, even if it never will sound like the 
original.
