you never used linux from scratch, i see.. :-)

i switched from LFS to gentoo not long ago, i can no longer afford the time
that it takes to install and maintain an LFS box right now.

about gentoo i can't say much about its performance yet or if it's specially
adequate for audio use. but about audio related software i can say that
there are ebuilds for virtually everything you might want to install. and if
you can't find an ebuild for a certain application it's quite easy to write
your own from the templates.

installing the system takes time but is not difficult, and installing
software is very easy indeed.

not that i particularly _like_ gentoo, i used lfs for years precisely
because i never liked _any_ linux distribution. and after using lfs even
less... but as i said i had to compromise, and i think that with gentoo you
can have a reasonable degree of control over your system.
