ok, this is just wierd.

i've just had the same issue with a session which has the 10-band eq 
from the CAPS plugin collection, rather than the swh multiband. again, 
removing that plugin solves the problem.

is there common code between these two plugins, or is there something 
about multiband eq plugins in general which is problematic?

note that i am running a bunch of TAP Equalizers (which are 8 bands 
each) without issue.
