I do a take limit. Three takes and you're out. That's only a rough guide. 
Every player has a curve of warming up to a take, some need longer than 
others. When the 'right' take happens you'd better have the record button on, 
because everything after that is usually a waste of time and you'd be better 
off coming back to it another day.

Unless you're going for that 'Phil Spector' sound that is.
