Nice description of your setup, for contrast I use a bunch of slimp3
players on a combination of wired and wireless networks.
http://www.slimdevices.com/ - great boxes, they do the sample rate
conversion and mp3 decoding in the box, and have spdif and analogue
outputs to feed amps. They can be linked for multiroom synced stuff, or
run individually, and can be controlled via apache, or using a UDP
protocol. The screens are really bright and easy to read.

I did consider a 'real' multiroom system hwne I moved in, but as I've only
just (literally) got round to tacking and boxing the cat5 cable that links
the upsairs and downstairs (previously it was hanging in loops from the
stairs, and anoying up by girlfrind no end). I moved in 2.5 years ago,
so I'm glad I didnt attempt anything complicated :)

BTW, I not sure wether to be flattered or insulted that you called
meterbrdige "eyecandy" ;)
