my machine once did this because the following kernel options
have been set *en*abled:
[ ] Enforce USB bandwidth allocation (EXPERIMENTAL)
[ ] Dynamic USB minor allocation (EXPERIMENTAL)
If both are enabled, happy re-compiling :) .
