I had similar problems with Cakewalk generated MIDI.  In fact, Cakewalk 
incorrectly played back MIDI files from the Internet that played 
correctly with timidity or Rosegarden.  I HATED Cakewalk's MIDI and 
music notation support.  I was only too happy to abandon it and wipe out 
my Windows partition. :-)
